Every single day, billions of lines of text quietly pass through translation systems — from the tabs open in our browsers to the apps on our phones, from e-commerce product descriptions to the subtitles on our favorite shows.
In an interconnected digital economy, expanding a software product, video game, or brand into international markets involves far more than straightforward dictionary conversion. While translation and localization are frequently treated as synonyms, their technical, linguistic, and operational boundaries differ considerably.
ckLoc. is a language services and consulting brand formed by combining the initials of my name (Çağdaş Koca) with the abbreviation "Loc." for Localization. I also share insights on technology trends, AI-assisted translation approaches, and industry developments through my blog.
I graduated from Ege University Translation and Interpreting department in İzmir/Türkiye. The theoretical and practical knowledge I gained throughout my academic journey has provided me with an interdisciplinary perspective. My interest in technology, artificial intelligence, and digitalization has not only contributed to my personal development but also opened the door to the world of LLMs and localization.
AI can make translation and localization workflows faster, more consistent, and more scalable. It can assist with first drafts, terminology management, repetitive content, and quality checks, allowing translators to focus more on areas where human expertise matters most, such as context, cultural nuances, tone, and creativity.
Depending on the scope and content of a project, this increased efficiency can also help shorten delivery times.
AI does not replace professional translation expertise. When used responsibly, it works alongside the translator to improve efficiency while keeping human judgment and quality control at the center of the process.
I use AI as a supportive tool in terminology research, text analysis, consistency checks, alternative expression evaluation, and project preparation stages; however, AI never replaces the final decision-making process. While AI can produce fast and relatively successful results during the translation process, it may sometimes generate misleading outputs (hallucinations). Therefore, every translation goes through my personal quality assessment process, where I review, revise, and finalize it. You can think of AI as a research assistant rather than the translator itself.
Confidentiality is a standard part of every project I undertake; it's not an afterthought. All files, documents, projects, and correspondence are processed securely and never shared with third parties without your permission.
AI plays a supportive role in my workflow and works like an assistant. However, data security is never sacrificed for convenience. For projects containing personal or sensitive data, I use local (on-premise) LLM tools when necessary. These tools run like any program installed on your computer, so your documents and data are never sent to external cloud servers and cannot be used for AI model training. Cloud-based translation and AI tools are only used for projects and content where such risks don't exist and sensitivity is not a concern.
